Leading Melbourne Neurosurgeon evaluates BRAINLAB CIRQ ROBOT at Epworth Hospital
Mr. Yagnesh Vellore, Melbourne Spine surgeon, has been asked to evaluate the new BRAINLAB CIRQ ROBOT at Epworth Hospital. This is one the first centres in Australasia to acquire this technology. Mr. Vellore has also been tasked with proctoring other surgeons in the usage of this SPINE ROBOT.
The SPINE ROBOT can be used to perform spinal fusion procedures such as PLIF, TLIF and to place pedicle screws to back up XLIF, ALIF and OLIF.
Spinal fusion is generally carried out for conditions such as spinal degeneration, degenerative disc disease, disc prolapse, sciatica, back pain, spondylolisthesis, spinal instability and scoliosis.
The BRAINLAB CIRQ system acts as a GPS 3-D guidance system, designed to improve accuracy and optimize patient care by combining the benefits of robotics with navigation, much like the GPS in a car. This advanced technology allows a neurosurgeon to place screws in a very precise fashion while seeing exactly where to place their instruments in real-time. By pre-programming coordinates, the robotic arm of the CIRQ can assist in guiding surgeons to precise locations in their patient’s spines, with high accuracy.
